Every now and then you need to have some fun, and Cornell Contraptions was formed just for this purpose.

 

We have frequently wondered if there is a better idea or design to assist in some of our everyday tasks.  Whether the problem lies on a professional or personal level, we have dreamt up many concepts, some of which have actually worked.  All notes and drawings for any of our ideas have been retained and filed, many starting life as a sketch on a cocktail napkin before being fine tuned with our AutoCad software.  The concepts that appear to have merit have been copyrighted, and many have been produced to prototype stage.

 

We cannot really share everything with you, but here are a few of the gadgets we have been playing with:

 

¨ Elevating Cart Lift:  This device assists laundry production workers in bulk transit of unfolded textiles.  The concept solves many ergonomic problems found in today’s high production laundries.

¨ Skeeter Beater:  Actually an old concept, this gadget turns your lawn mower into an effective mosquito fogging machine.

¨ Lazy Guy Wood Lift:  Still in design stage, this gadget elevates firewood from a basement to the first floor.  All the elevated wood is hidden inside a decorative cabinet.

¨ Dual Quadrant Mobile Incline Conveyor:  PLC controlled self positioning incline conveyor to remove and transport clean goods from facing lane washers or dryers.  Occupies about half the floor space of conventional transport conveyors.

¨ Clambake Preparation Device:  Designed and built out of a need for a central cooking area for an annual clambake, this gadget was developed with odds and ends accumulated over the years.  We consider this to be in continual development as guests demand annual updates.

¨ ALMI Strandard Ironer Doffer Roll:  We discovered a very inexpensive and successful way to replace the thin gauge stainless doffer roll found on AMI Standard ironers.

¨ Cake Buster Table:  A simple gadget which uses the height and resulting gravity from slings to “bust” compressed cakes of linen discharged from BTW’s.

 

Yes—of course there are more contraptions either in the design stage or floating about our heads.  We will be sure to post the ones we are able to share as soon as they are ready!
